How old do I have to be to become a member at ...in the woods?

21

Actual e-mail

Q: Hi. I am curious about how strict you guys are about age. I just turned 20 and really want to visit your campground. Is there anything I can do to join now? - anonymous

A: This definitely is a sticky wicket. Although you are, indeed, of consenting age as an adult, the problem lies with under age drinking. Some campers bring alcoholic beverages with them when they camp. If you partook of such beverages, this would put us liable for the contribution to the delinquency of a minor.  Also, if we "bend" the age for one, we could not, in all fairness, not "bend" it for everyone else. So, based on this policy, we regretfully cannot bend this rule.

I hope you understand our predicament and thank you for your interest at ...in the woods.

Q: Do only "bears" come here?  Do I have to be a bear?

A.  Absolutely not.  The name is  ...in the woods.  It is NOT Bears in the woods.  I guess it would be like Jellystone Campgrounds.  Do only Bears go there or Jellies, for that matter.  Everyone is welcome.

Q: How much is the membership?

A: $10.00 Per Year

Q: Do you allow women?

A: Yes -

I recently had a discussion on this issue. Here is my view on this issue:
I don't believe anyone can choose their sexual orientation anymore than one can choose their sex, gender, or eye color. If we are gay, we are gay - it doesn't matter if you are male or female - we are all in this together. It is silly that a community that strives for recognition and tolerance in the "straight" world can be so narrow-minded and intolerant in their own sub-culture. People are people - either you like them or you don't; it is that simple. I suspect for the people you don't like you just stay shy of them, no more than going to a bar where everyone is welcomed and someone may be there you don't see eye to eye with. All we request is that every treat each other with the same respect that they desire.

Q: Next question: Are there a lot of women at your campground?

A: No, but they will not be turned away if they choose to come.

Q: I have never gone camping before. What do I need to bring with me?

A: Here is a partial list of things to bring:

      • Personal items
          • socks / shoes
          • sweater or sweatshirt (check weather)
          • 2 bath towels

Q: Do we send out bulk emails, snail mail, or sell our membership listing?

A: Yes and No - the only email you will receive from us is if either condition exists and we would NEVER sell our membership listing.  We do have a newsletter we email out around the 20th of the month.  YOU must select on-line to receive the newsletter.  YOU must end the subscription, if applicable.

  1. You make on-line reservations -- we email you a confirmation letter
  2. You submit a question via email - it will be responded in the same manner -- via email.

Q: Is your facility clothing optional?

A: - Yes

Actual Email -

Hi guys,

I had heard that "in the woods" was a nude resort (what we are looking for) or at least clothing optional. But the pool pictures on your site show everyone dressed? Please clarify. thanks. and looking to visit soon.

A: Yes, we are a clothing optional campground. However, because these photos can be seen by anyone on the web, (and it is not allowed on our server) We do not show frontal nudity, nor an over abundance of nudity. I know that kids surf the web and we will not show anything that is less than tasteful. I hope this explains why there are no explicit nude photos on the web, but rest assured- it is clothing optional.

Q: Can you get cell phone service at the campground?

A: Yes, Verizon and/or Sprint works - AllTel works everywhere but the Bearacks

Q: Do you have WI-FI?

A: "Ha, ha, ha," is the response we get from Bell South when we question the availability of a DSL line. We "bearly" have phone service period. We cannot get cable, DSL, or anything high speed. So, No is the answer on that one.

Q: Are there any golf courses near you?

A: Yes, Victoria Bryant State Park is close

Q: Do you have a pool or Hot Tub?

A: Yes - On both counts

Q: Can Annual Members have their own Hot Tub?

A: Yes - but here are the rules:

  • It must be on your deck
  • It must have a 4' fence surrounding it with a self locking gate
  • It will NOT be subject to health inspections
  • It will NOT be subject to hot tub license
  • Contingent on ample electrical power on your site

Q: Do you rent tents?

A: Yes $5.00 just tent or $10.00 for tent kit

Q: Do you have rooms/cabins?

A: Yes, we have Cabins and the Bearacks (individual rooms)

Q: Do you provide linen for rooms/cabins?

A: NO, however you may rent them for $5.00/visit.

Q: Does it cost more on Holidays like 4th of July, Memorial and Labor Day?

A: Yes - a slight increase does occur on these dates - about $5.00 more

Q: Do you have day passes?

A: Yes, they are $10.00

Q: How do I check Rates and Availability on a site?

A: Click on the link in the left menu on the type of accomodation you are interested in. On each page there is a VACANCY GRID

    1. Click on the month you want
    2. Click on the day you wish and which accomodation you wish - any with a V means it is available. (V = available - R= Reserved)
    3. An email will automatically start for you - please fill in the appropriate information as requested and Send email

    4. A confirmation letter will be emailed back to you in PDF Format -- it requires adobe reader which you can get free HERE

Q: Do I need to secure a site with a deposit?

A: A 50% deposit required on reservations for new or questionable members.

Q: Who gets the money from your fundraisers?

A: Our Charity of Choice - Chris Kids Rainbow House www.chriskids.org
